Three months into 2010 I believe it is time for an update on my goals for 2010. How am I doing? Am I on track or not?
2010 didn’t start out like I hoped for. Most of the goals I set for this year didn’t require me to get better, although it would help. Instead I got worse. At the end of December I was close to 40% on the David Bell CFS Severity Scale, but currently I am closer to 30%. The long Winter and successive infections are probably the main causes. If this is the case I should improve and make some progress in the following months.

I haven’t started on some of my goals, but then again I have a whole year to accomplish them.
I managed to publish 1 article per week on one of my 2 blogs. As a matter of fact this is my 16th article in 15 weeks. It’s hard to judge it for myself, but I think I am becoming a better blogger and writer. My English will have improved too, but I haven’t made a concentrated effort (=study) yet.
I have practiced yoga and meditation daily, never less than 15 minutes, and yoga has become a lot more fun now that I have a Wii.
Setting up a third blog and restyling my current blogs are in the planning phase. I already did some minor changes to the layout of my existing blogs and have written down a dozen ideas for my third blog. I am still looking for a suitable name though. The guest post goals are for the second half of this year.
I was only able to go cycling as cardiovascular exercise 4 times this year (12-14 km) so I am nowhere near of working towards my goal for 25 km. Finding a balance between cardiovascular and weightlifting hasn’t really been an issue either. Even though I wasn’t able to go back to the gym I did manage to make some progress at home and I lost 2.1 kg in 3 months time. The crazy sport I had in mind for this Summer depended on me going back to the gym in January and train for six months, so I will probably fail this goal.
I kept up the volunteer work, counting waterfowl once a month in a park, and adding all my nature sightings (mainly birds) to an online database.
I found professional help from a doctor specialized in ME/CFS and expect the results from the initial tests, and hopefully also a diagnosis and treatment in May.
Even with all the medical expenses I allowed myself some audiobooks and a Wii. The Wii is just fantastic, combining exercise with fun. As I already start to experience the benefits I will be writing about it in the near future.
Bonuses for 2010
| Bonuses for 2010 | |
|---|---|
| 0 | manage my own virtual private server online |
| 0 | go back to work, even if it’s just part-time, halftime or less |
| - | make a second trip abroad |
| 0 | start swimming again |
| 0 | start Nordic walking again |
| 0 | freshen up my French or learn another language |
| 0 | earn a second certificate |
| - | earn a third certificate |
| 0 | walk 12 km |
| 0 | contribute to an open source project |
I haven’t paid attention to the bonuses for 2010 yet. I made some progress walking lately, going on 15-20 minute hikes throughout the day and that sometimes adds up to 5-6 km. That is still nowhere near doing a 12 km hike. Actually, I don’t know what came over me setting this goal so high. I just checked my exercise database and even at the peak of my remission I never walked more than 10 km. Well, I can’t change it now. I expect to start Nordic walking again in the following months.
Making a second trip abroad or earning a third certificate while I haven’t even planned the first makes it unlikely to achieve them.
Conclusion
Not as good as I hoped for. As the after effects of the infections disappear and Spring is definitely breaking through I felt a bit better these last couple of days. I hope to make some more progress in the second quarter of 2010.

I’m interested to hear how things are progressing with Dr De Meirlier? I have an appointment to see him in June. Have you had your results yet?
Awaiting results of tests. Last week of April consult with dietician (all results should be in by then) and first week of May exercise test and consult with Dr. De Meirleir.
Wow…that’s really impressive! I think you did really well. Not only that but the ability to see what you did well and what you didn’t do well helps when planning future events.
I might steal this idea from you!
Keep up the good work and good luck!
Thank you.

Glad to read that you are feeling better.
What a great resource!
